Epigrams & aphorisms by Oscar Wilde

Recommended Posts

Sorry endbg i haven't been keeping track of all the threads i reply to lol. As for quotes most of my favorite Wilde ones come from the Importance of Being Earnest. I had to search online for the exact wording of course.

Oh! it is absurd to have a hard and fast rule about what one should read and what one shouldn't. More than half of modern culture depends on what one shouldn't read.

Oh, I don't think I would care to catch a sensible man. I shouldn't know what to talk to him about

I never liked that quote by Wilde. I see what he's saying, that those who don't achieve their goals will constantly have ambitions as a way to excuse their failures but those who eventually do succeed usually have ambitions before they achieved them.

Patriotism is a virtue of the vicious.
